|
|
Fans of the Japanese limited edition Suntory Yamazaki Sherry Cask single malt whisky will be pleased to hear that despite reported shortages of stock of the Japanese single malt whisky Suntory has announced the release of a Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2016 Edition which will be available from 1st February, 2016.
It may have surprised a few of you last year when Jim Murray named the Suntory Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 Edition "World Whisky of the Year" in his Whisky Bible 2015. The new Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2016 base uses the same lot of whiskies used to make the award winning Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 Edition. These whiskies have matured for two extra years.

The Japanese expressions are certainly popular and have a solid niche now in the whisky world. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Sorry, but what an absolute joke this is.....
The Suntory Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2016 Edition carries no age statement, it has been bottled at 48% ABV, a limited release of 5000 bottles worldwide and it has a suggested retail price of US$300. It will be available from the 1st February from specialist Whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange |

Certainly a far cry from the £57 price tag the 2009 release had... |

This NAS whisky is really beginning to cheese me off. I don't mind paying good money for Whisky, but I like to know how old the whisky is. |

I seem to remember (don't quote me on this!) that the cask range that are put out by Suntory are around 12-15 year old, but as they mix in quite a bit of older stock in there they sell it for a higher price, and of course NAS is better than 12 year old right - no one will pay $300 for a 12 year old but they will for a NAS bottling
....anyway, if it's plus 2 year that puts it at around 12-17 years old and given the price of the 18 year old (if you can get it), it's Japanese and the fact this is "limited" and the same base stock as the "best whisky in the world"....the price is actually reasonable.
....I'm not saying I'm prepared to pay it, but at least you can see some reasoning behind the price tag, unlike many NAS whiskies. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Masterofmalt usually stock these but in limited numbers and they go quick. They don't always appear on the site on the day of release, it all depends when they get their allocation. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

apparently the the uk stock has sold out according to The Independent.
I sat online for a few hours poised and emailed Master of Malt asking if they were doing a lottery. It looks like there has only a select few privy to these bottles. What a shame. |
