The first of two new Irish whiskey distilleries which will form Irelands largest independent distillery, the Great Northern Distillery has gone into production.
The Great Northern Distillery is a 30 million bottle a year capacity three-column still grain whiskey distillery and is now producing new spirit. .
A sister distillery on the site is being commissioned and will begin distillation by the end of August. The second distillery has three large copper pots capable of distilling 12 million bottles a year of single malt and pot still whiskey.
Update: This week on the Great Northern Distillery Dundalk site the grain distillery was joined by three mighty copper pot stills, Fionn, Oisin and Setanta (yes the stills have names) of its sister distillery.
The three copper pot stills will produce a full range of single malt, peated malt and pot still whiskeys taking The Great Northern Distillery's combined annual output to 50 million bottles.
