|
|
I just got an email from my local branch of The Whisky Shop this morning which said:
" Scapa 16yo (21035) is being discontinued by Pernod Ricard, with immediate effect. There will be a replacement product but details have yet to be confirmed.
Longmorn 16yo (21034) is being discontinued by Pernod Ricard, we should get some stock on the next order which is due in early April but this will be the last of it. There will be a replacement product by details have yet to be confirmed. "
I've had a look on Pernod Ricard's website but there's nothing in their latest news about it. Anyone heard anything from other sources?
I was worried about Scapa, having been closed in recent years, that the 16yo wouldn't get enough market share to keep the distillery open, so I'm glad to hear there's going to be a replacement product. What are you betting it's going to be a younger NAS! But if it means having Scapa on the supermarket shelves, I'd be happy to try it. The 16yo has been rather too inaccessible for my liking, both in price and availability. At least Waitrose have had the Longmorn 16yo. I can understand why both 16-year-olds are going because they've both been tainted by reviews saying "not as good as previous, younger versions" but it's probably due to diminishing stock and a drive towards NAS. |

I havent heard anything, there has not been an official announcement AFAIK but i would guess we are going to see a younger or perhaps even NAS Scapa which is the current trend with distillers hungry for fast money. |

Well if the NAS Scapa comes in at £30-£35 in the supermarkets I'd buy it. And if it has those familiar Scapa tones I'd be going back for more. Better that than how the elusive and exclusive 16yo has been of late. I'm still supping on an old 12yo and remembering the bygone days. |

I will certainly be happy to see a Scapa and Longmorn at a every day dramming price, hopefully they are priced reasonably and are decent expressions |

I picked up a Scapa 16 at a garage in Speyside for £49 last September.
Thought it was great value and a very smooth dram.
Bit disappointed to hear it will be no more. _________________ You can't push anyone up the ladder unless he is ready to climb himself. |

Very interesting. The Longmorn 16 is nice, but too expensive to really be competitive. But Longmorn does have a very good reputation because of the many great independent bottlings that are out there. I wonder If there will be just one replacement, or maybe Longmorn will get a range of expressions?
Anyway, I'm in contact now with Pernod Ricard to see what they are willing to disclose. _________________

All 3 were 20% off and all 100% claimed within a few minutes of the deal going live. I managed to get the Longmorn and the Mortlach. |
