The Balvenie GoldenCask 14 Year Old is another new whisky for the new year unfortunately it will only be available from travel retail outlets so watch out for it when you are out and about.
The Balvenie Distillery has released a new, non chill-filtered single malt whisky, The Balvenie GoldenCask 14 Year Old, exclusively in travel retail.
Produced by William Grant & Sons, it will be available in travel retail worldwide from February 2009 with a recommended retail price of £40
Presented in the traditional Balvenie tube, with an abv of 47.5%, the introduction will be supported by experiential promotions and tastings in airports.
William Grant & Sons Global Travel Retail Director Rita Greenwood said: "We're very proud of this travel retail exclusive, which will offer malt whisky enthusiasts a very special new taste and will perfectly complement our award-winning range of The Balvenie Single Malt Scotch whiskies in travel retail."?
Crafted by The Balvenie Malt Master David Stewart, The Balvenie GoldenCask 14 Year Old was matured first in traditional oak whisky casks before spending a final period of maturation in rum casks.
Stewart commented: "The result of this unusual finishing period in rum casks has created an interesting new Balvenie expression with a fruity sweetness and subtle spice that I hope malt whisky enthusiasts will enjoy."?
Greenwood has high hopes for the new line, first shown to travel retail buyers at the TFWA World Exhibition last year. "Despite economic uncertainty, the industry clearly continues to believe that the future lies in offering travellers something special," she said.

Hi Rene
It was actually John that posted about the GoldenCask. It is the first i have heard of the the Balvenie GoldenCask also, it does sound interesting though i shall watch for it at the airport in February.
I am well over the flu now and making up for what i missed at christmas. It had its upside i polished off some whiskies which i was struggling to drink such as a bottle of Ledaig someone had gave me so it helped that i couldnt actually taste it. I am just putting a large dent in a bottle of Ardbeg 17 year old this evening which i received at christmas but resisted drinking until i got my taste fully back.

I wish the whisky companies such as Balvenie would make some of these limited editions available in some of the whisky specialists shops and not just travel retail shops as people like myself who only get on a plane once or twice a year never get the chance to try many of these travel retail exclusive releases.

I will have to watch for this one when i pass through Prestwick airport later next month although Prestwick only has a small selection of whisky, i may get lucky and find it available to taste.

I have passed through Prestwick airport a few times and it has small version of world of whiskies but there is a coffee shop before you go through to departures which has a much better selection of malts than you get in the world of whiskies shop in departures.
