Thanks Ralfy.
Looks like the Shetland is a 40%, less than the previously bottlings of that blend. |

I spotted that too, anyone got any thoughts on if it's likely to be worth a punt? I've not had any Lidl whiskies before |

I enjoy lidl and aldi whisky for what they are, good value, not particularly quality presentation but enjoyable drams. Particularly the christmas releases which ive bought the last few years. I certainly enjoyed the 23yr old speyside and 12 yr irish last year and I'll get the Islay this year. Does seem like the price gap between lidl/aldi specials and other OB deals is narrowing though.
I know Caol Ila is the obvious suspect for unnamed islay releases. Wonder if this truly is "rare" as the marketing suggests, imagine if they'd sourced a Port Ellen 🤩 (jokes). I've got lag 16 and Bmore 15 on the go which might be interesting side by side although doubt there'll be sherry casks used for the Ben Bracken. |

As W&M don’t operate any islay distilleries I’m assuming it’s none of theirs.
Outside chance it could be bruichladdich as it’s the only islay distillery they are associated with, but sold up in 2001 I believe and this is a 2003 distillation... |

Bought a Lidl 18 (or so) year old a couple of years ago for about £45 and returned it, it was that poor.
Not that it was bad whisky, I just though to myself; if this was a blind tasting would I think this was and 18 yr old or for that matter, worth what I paid? The answer was no on both counts.
Have heard of the German offering and was well jealous. I'd definitely give the 43% one a try, might have more oomph. |

I saw today that Lidl have a new version of Abrachan blended malt 41%. Said to be speyside / highland with peat & smoke. I didn't buy it so can't comment further. |

I picked up a bottle of the Abrachan blended malt yesterday for a bargain price of £15.99. It definitely exceeded my expectations - lovely subtle peat flavours (comparable to a Benromach 10), with brown sugar, treacle and chocolate notes too. Well worth grabbing a bottle. |

Sounds good. I assume there would be Ardmore in it as part of the blend? |

I'm not sure to be honest. I believe their Ben Bracken speyside is actually Tamnavulin but the Abrachan tastes quite different to that. |

It’s been a while since I tried the abrachan. There were strong rumours years ago that lidl had a parcel of Tamnavulin. That said as posted above the Abrachan is a different kettle of fish and like most blends will be blended with what they have.
From memory it was a decent blend although at around £19 it would struggle to compete with other bottles that would often come on offer was my recollection. |
