I have seen very few new whisky releases cause such a stir in the online forums and blogs. As mentioned above it is surprising the amount of comments on blogs and forums about this new whisky from people who havent actually tried it yet.

I have now tried it (a few times last night) and i can say it is a quality dram. It is not Ardbeg as we know it as William says it has its own individual style and i would buy it again.

Yes i would have liked to try a 46% ABV non chill-filtered version but the version which has been released is still a quality enjoyable dram.

A lot of people online are having a moan about the price of it, the price is a bit steep for a NAS bottling but considering it is a limited release you should expect it to be a little more expensive than the 10 year old.A price around £30 and not £40+ would have been a fairer price.

I would say if you are looking for a whisky like the Ardbeg 10 year old then buy a bottle of Ardbeg 10 if you want to try a new quality lightly peated dram then try Blasda.

From what i have read i think it would be interesting to read some reviews on Blasda from a blind tasting. Seems people cant accept that it is not the style of Ardbeg that they would expect.

A good mate gave me a couple of drams of the new Blasda last night, and yes i did enjoy it, the words "Ardbeg Extra Light" came to mind. Would i buy myself a bottle after tasting it - yes probably at some point as i enjoyed it and i usually like to have more than a couple of drams before i give a whisky the thumbs up or down.

I would guess the pricing of Blasda may hinder sales of it as it is about £12 - £15 more than the 10 year old.

I thought i would add my thoughts on Blasda now i have tried it.

I did enjoy it but maybe a bit too sweet for my taste. With its lower peat and abv Blasda has lost the kick that makes me love Ardbeg so much. A good dram if you like sweet, lightly peated whisky.

I have now finished my bottle of Blasda. I did enjoy it but it isnt what i want from Ardbeg and it is not worth the £40 price tag imo. I have tried it but wont buy it again at its present price.

I agree with you Craig, when you drink Adbeg you choose it for the peaty kick that it gives you. You sort of feel let down when tasting the Blasda.

They (Ardbeg) are obviously trying to get some of that market (not so peaty), but I think they should stick with what they know, even if the Blasda tastes pretty good.
