"The Diageo-owned brand has finished its Crown Royal DeLuxe blended whisky in maple toasted oak barrels to give the liquid a light, sweet maple taste with woody caramel tones on the finish".
The Crown Royal Maple Finish is bottled at 40% and is still a whisky where many of the other offerings coming to the market from the US are classed as Honey liqueurs such as Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey Whiskey Liqueur, Evan Williams Honey Reserve Liqueur and Jim Beam Honey, these are liqueurs although they are bottled at 35% so still a significant amount of alcohol in them. And across the water in Ireland Bushmills are getting in on this trend for honeyed whisky, they now have Bushmills Irish Honey which is bottled at 35%.
It does seem like there is a new generation of honeyed whisky liqueurs being bottled at a higher strength of 35% ABV where previously 17% - 20% was more common.
I wonder if some of the Scotch single malt whiskies will try to get a piece of this market.
