I went to my shop nearest work this morning and got their last bottle!

And then I realised that it is 33 year old, laid to rest in 1979, which is the year I was born and on Sunday I will be 33 Smile

I know what I'll be doing!

I did a bit of digging on whisky forums and news items last night. The brand William Maxwell is a subsidiary of Peter J Russell & Co., a stable that includes Ian MacLeod (Isle of Skye, Chieftan's Choice, 6 Isles, Smokehead). The Maxwell business has its roots in a Liverpudlian trading firm dating back to 1796 - the date on the 33yo bottles.

There is a lot of speculation as to the identity of previous Maxwell releases. Many reckoned the 28yo from the last two years to be either Brora or Teaninich. However, with no official provenance I guess the actual distillery could vary from release to release.

I reckoned a couple of years ago that the Maxwell Lidl whisky was bottled by Ian Macleod and posted on here

I think my post then carried across other forums and websites. I still reckon. Its correct and these aged whiskies are like a back scratcher/thank you for Lidl who probably get Ian Macleod to bottle all there own label whisky.

That is a big back scratcher Alastair, 5200 bottles of 33 year old whisky but then i suppose if it secures continued orders of there own label blends etc, which is where the big money will be.

3 shops didnt have it then called the Customer call centre and the girl told me that 99% of the stock sold out by the close of buisness thursday Crying or Very sad
