These awards show that the Japanese are now producing some really good whisky and awards such as this is sure to find there whisky a bigger audience here in the UK and worldwide. However i couldnt see Japanese whisky making much pf a dent in the Scotch whisky market share in the near future.

Hi William
They definitely wont make much of a dent in the Scotch whisky market with these 2 whiskies as i just checked The Whisky Exchange who usually have one of the better selections of Japanese whisky in the UK, the YOICHI 20 YEARS OLD is out of stock and they do not have the SUNTORY HIBIKI 30 YEARS OLD at all.
Even if they did have the Nikka Yoichi 20 year old they wanted £150 for it, you can get 3 or 4 botlles of last years (Talisker 18) Worlds Best Single Malt whisky for that price.

I am sure the Nikka Yoichi 20 year old is a well deserved winner, i havent ventured into Japanese malts yet myself but results like this do tempt me to maybe give them a try.

I was quite surprised to see a Japanese malt winning this but it must be good to do so.
Looks like The Whisky Exchange are struggling to keep up with demand for it since it was announced as the winner. As William said, i am sure this result will bring Japanese whisky to more peoples attention.
