Nose: vanilla, walnut, polished oak, chocolate, dates, fruitcake. With water blueberries and melon. No smoke!

Palate: Heavy oak tannins, ripe dark fruits (blackberries?), medlar jelly contrasted with honeydew melon.

Finish: Finishes on the tannins, dry sherry notes, cinnamon.

Maybe the power of suggestion but I had already read the official tasting notes and couldn't really fault them. Jim McEwan doesn't give much away about the cask provenance but, from my limited experience, this has elements of the Dalmore 15 so I'm guessing there's a big sweet sherry cask influence, Matuzalem, PX? Apparently there are French casks involved too and the intense sweetness and lighter fruit notesmight suggest a dessert wine cask finish? Of course I could be completely off the mark! Either way it really is something special.

Thanks bifter for the notes I have a bottle which I am saving for a friends birthday visit in December, we visited Islay in May and enjoyed our visit to Bruichladdich so I thought he might enjoy this one amongst others from Islay, I'm finding it very hard to keep it closed but looking forward to opening it.
