Are you a driker or collector?
This question was inspired by Alan (aka Woodwynd). Personally i am a drinker who also stashes away some good stuff to drink in the future. You know the stuff that will go up in price in the future and will be unaffordable to us mortals. So i am both a drinker and a collector but i dont intend to sell my colletion in the future i intend to drink it, if i live that long as i have over 400 bottles now |

I drink it
And collect it
Buy bottles to stash away to drink later but most of the time goes up in price and turns out to be a nice investment, so will sell it in the future to buy more to drink and maybe even a few pennies in the bank. or of course Open and drink
Currently have around 40 open bottles with lots more 30ml - 60ml samples with anything from cask samples to 40yo glengoyne

Hello big mac , it's the first time I've been accused of inspiring someone, cheers!
What was the inspiration of your user name ?
Was it ( a ) burger
( b ) macallans
Or ( c ) your name
Well anyway I collect and drink , I think the drinking part kicked off the collecting , I couldn't get through it quick enough so they started to collect themselves by accident , before long I had quite a few bottles and I got more interested in collecting , I still drink of course but there are some that I have that I probably wouldn't open, sad but true!
It's not for making money I just really enjoy collecting , I've only ever sold a hand full of bottles and when I do I buy more either to collect or drink !
A good way to feed the habit is to buy two of something that you really want sell one later and hopefully pay for the one that's left !
Cheers Alan. |

i suppose you could say all of the above with the big mac being an American invention and the US is now my home, Macallan being one of my favorite whiskies, and my surname is Maclean and i get called Mac by my friends and quite often i get refered to as Big Mac as i am 6ft 4in tall. So i thought it was a apt forum user name. |

I started as a drinker and sort of started collecting as i was buying more than i could drink. Now the collection is growing and i have a few which would be very difficult to just drink due to the value of them. Who knows i may sell them or open them in the future. |

I found a taste for it then started collecting what i personally thought was particularly good and then in recent years have started buying bottles which may make me some profit if not, not to worry as i will drink them some day |

Mainly a drinker with some good stuff tucked away to drink some day. I have never really pursued the collecting as an investment thing but the way prices are going in the last few years it is new worth considering. |

I drink and collect and only just recently sold a couple of bottles for the first time. I did start collecting as an investment but some bottles have gone up in value so much its hard to open them when you know how much you can now get for them. And that money can go towards buying some more bottles |

Do most of you concentrate on collecting brands which you would drink yourself, perhaps some of you may only collect a single brand. My tastes vary, i do like the sherried malts so i collect a lot of them but i enjoy all styles of whisky so i would collect anything i think is good as i intend to drink it one day. My collection is not a money/investment/ profit making inspired collection, its a collection of whisky i like. |
