Hi McKay,
I have tried 4 Irish malts since 2003 and they were the following.
I think everybody starts with the best known, Bushmills, a lovely malt that sets the pattern of Irish whiskies. I love the nose and the taste, but it's not my number one.
Midleton 25yo. Wow now here's a great Irishmen. It has about everything you need to sit next to a logfire on a cold evening. The aroma is lovely and the taste tantalising. It lingers on and on, a truly great malt.
Cooley SMWS 10yo; like Ardbeg with an Irish accent. A great peaty malt which bites your tongue and then dominates your whole mouth.
Nearly forgot this one . . . . Redbreast 12yo more like a Highlander than a Irish malt, but still very pleasant to drink.
Try one of those McKay and you'll be surprised.

Well with St Patricks Day coming up i thought i would post something in the Irish Whiskey forum.
Like most people the Irish whiskey i have had most is the Bushmills 10 year old but if you havent tried the Bushmills 16 year old i would highly recommend it, it is a very nice Irish dram. I also like the Redbreast 12 mentioned by islayonspey another good irish dram.

Hugh i have been told by a couple of people that the Bushmills Rare 21 year old is even better again but unfortunately i havent had the pleasure of it yet.

For £13.21 you simply can't beat this! A lovely full and fruity taste, enhanced enormously by a few drops of water. I understand that it is pretty much the same as Tyrconnel from the Cooley Distillery. _________________ Ye dinnae wanna put ice in it! |

That would be the SAINSBURY's OWN BRAND Irish Single Malt Whiskey. I've yet to try any other supermarket own brand Irish Whiskeys - I know there's a Waitrose one for example - so I don't know how good these are. _________________ Ye dinnae wanna put ice in it! |

Typical me i never read the small print. I had heard that Cooley was supplying Sainsburys with their Irish Single Malt Whiskey but hadnt heard what was in the bottle. I suppose it had to be either Tyrconnel, Connemara and i am not sure if they produce Lockes at Cooley.
