Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard has announced plans to underline the rich heritage of Irish whiskey with the launch of a new initiative - Single Pot Still Whiskeys of Midleton. Aimed at promoting consistent communication on the provenance and quality of single pot still whiskey.

The initiative marks the adoption by the industry of new terminology for this unique style of whiskey moving from "Pure Pot Still" to "Single Pot Still".

They have also new packaging for Redbreast and Green Spot, from April 2011

Intersting that they are dropping the Pure Pot Still description and now going to use Single Pot Still description. Redbreast is probably the Irish whiskey i drink most.

I noticed it said here

The new terminology was prompted by the launch of Redbreast 15 Year Old Pure Pot Still Irish Whiskey in the USA in 2010, wherein the US Trade & Tariff Bureau (TTB) invoked a regulation prohibiting the use of the term "pure" as it pertains to whiskey descriptors.

The US is such a big market to Irish Distillers, i wouldnt think they would argue this point, besides i think the term Single Pot Still Whiskey could increase sales as more people who are not familiar with pot still whisky may relate the description Single Pot Still Whiskey with the term Single Malt Whisky which they already associate with quality.
