Just returned from the pub, where I was surprised to find they had Oban 14. Tried it for the first time with pretty high expectations given what I've heard, but was relatively disappointed. I found it a bit... lacking in something, not quite sure what!

Alex was there much whisky in the bottle that you bought the whisky from, it is possible it could have been sitting opened with a low level of whisky in it for a long time and the whiskys character has deteriorated. Or there is always a chance a pub may have watered it down or diluted it with a cheaper whisky.

Hmm it was about half-full. You could be right, I would like to try it again before jumping to any conclusions. Having said that, other whiskies of reputation that I first tried in pubs or bars (Highland Park 12 most recently) have never disappointed. Are you a fan of Oban?

Alex I wouldnt say i am a huge fan of Oban but i do think it is a decent whisky. I just thought your experience of it didnt add up, as i said it is a decent whisky, that i why diageo choose it as one of its classic malts, having said that i would rate a few of the classic malts above it.
