Can anyone help me locate this whiskey?
It used to be sold by Oddbins but they no longer stock it.
I am a total novice when it comes to whiskey but I really enjoyed drinking this.
Many thanks

Hi Jim
I believe Wholly Smoke was especially bottled for Oddbins so you wont find it anywhere else and i think it was a limited release bottling so i am not sure if they will ever have it again. You may get lucky and find a bottle in an Oddbins store somewhere but i would doubt it as it was a great Islay blended malt whisky for your money. I believe it was a blend of only 2 Islay whiskies one of which was Ardbeg so if you are looking for an alternative i would suggest Ardbeg.

Hi Fergie,
Many thanks for the swift reply, as you say, it was a really nice blend, especially for the price.
I'll certainly give Ardbeg a try especially after reading the tasting notes
Regards

Hi Jim and welcome to the forum.
As well as Ardbeg another couple of Islay whiskies you may like are Lagavulin and Laphroaig.

Its a long time since i saw any wholly smoke in an oddbins store.
I did notice that Oddbins have a new bottling of Against The Grain called Eagle Eyed, anyone tried this, it is apparently a Speyside malt from a distillery established in the 1890's.
The tasting note on Oddbins site is:
Tasting Notes : Smooth and sweet, with a dark chocolate edge. An influence of toasted malt develops and hints of fresh herbs linger.
Oddbins must rate it highly as it has a £42.99 price tag and going by the label it was distilled in 1994 making it 16 year old if it was bottled recently. Anyone know which distillery it originates from? |

I believe it was a vatting of Ardbeg, Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila.
From the taste (as I remember it), I don't think Laphroaig or Lagavulin would be a good alternative. So I'd say go with Ardbeg (comically expensive), Caol Ila, or Big Pete.
