Been trying a few dry and astringent whiskies lately. Are these flavours and textures caused by wood tannins in the cask? Do first fill or refills produce more of these?

Yes the other styles are speyside and highland but I've not tried them yet. Just over £17 a bottle does represent v good value.

Anyone tried the Glen marnoch aldi range yet? I had the islay last night and it was surprisingly good! Very similar to laphroaig 10.
