Sad to say but I have noticed that the most recent bottles of these two Glenmorangie favorites here in the U.S. have been reduced in ABV. Formerly a robust 46%, they are now 43% ABV as seen in the lo ...

Edradour Caledonia 12. Oloroso Sherry cask aged and 46% ABV. Wonderful! Superior to the Glenmorangie Lasanta and Balvenie Doublewood IMO, although I do enjoy these lesser priced bottles also.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. The darkness I attribute to the fact that this 12 year old whisky is aged the final two years in a port cask, making for a seriously reddish tinge to the color.

A blended or vatted malt is simply a mix of two or more single malts from different distilleries. Monkey Shoulder, for example, consists of single malts from Balvenie, Glenfiddich and Kininvie. I ag ...

A Scotch blend that I particularly like, not least because unlike most blends which are 40% ABV (too weak for my taste), it is a whopping 50% ABV, is the relatively new Cutty Sark Prohibition. While ...

PostForum: Blended Whisky   Posted: Fri Dec 05, 2014 4:51 pm   Subject: Battle of the Blends- Ballantines's 17 & The Finest
As I said, guess I gotta try the Finest. Obviously I do have a bias against cheap blends because none have ever pleased me, e.g., JW Red, basic Dewar's, Teachers, etc. But I will try the Finest and ...

In terms of price, the Finest and the 17 are miles apart, the 17 being roughly four times the amount, what I would pay for a quality single malt. A more apt comparison I would think is the Finest vs ...

One fabulous single malt that is still priced under $50 where I live in Florida is the Bunnahabhain 12, a non-peaty Islay. Love it. I can also cop the Glenfarclas 12 for under $40, an absolute steal ...

Tended to some family business in my native New York City this past month and took the opportunity to visit Park Avenue Liquor in midtown Manhattan. The store advertises that it carries 400+ single m ...

Ardmore Traditional Cask (46%). Got it for a good price. Eager to partake of a non-Islay peated single malt. Expect it to be less intense than the Laphroaigs I have tried (the 10, 18 and the Quarte ...

On a side note, I get the Old Parr 12 here for only $30, and I find it to be a terrific value for a blend, superior to other blended Scotch I've tried in the same price range, e.g., Ballantine's 12, D ...

How heavily sherried is it? Does it compare, say, with the Glendronach 12 or the older Glenfarclas expressions?

Have not tried the other Glenfarclas expressions. Working from memory only, and not ...

I'm not sure about Costco outlets everywhere in the U.S., but here in southeast Florida, I advise a run because this excellent bottle is priced for a short time at a mere $35. Costco's sign in front ...
