Ferg & Harris 12 Year Old Speyside Review

11th September 2024
Review of a big sherried 12 year old undisclosed Speyside single malt from relatively new, Edinburgh based, Independent Bottler, Ferg & Harris.

Ferg & Harris 12 Year Old SpeysideFerg & Harris is a relatively new independent bottler, they are an offshoot of their parent business, Edinburgh based 'Young Spirits', who offer warehousing, bottling, and labelling services. In 2022 they launched the Ferg & Harris range of single cask whiskies.

Owners and whisky enthusiasts John Ferguson and Alex Harrison, the namesakes of the independent bottling whisky brand, tell me that they only lend their names to the finest spirits and that these whiskies are sourced from distilleries across Scotland and finished in their own chosen distinctive style.

Amongst their numerous limited release single cask bottling's the Ferg & Harris range also features this core 12 Year Old Speyside single malt whisky which has been finished in a First-Fill Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead cask, it comes from an undisclosed Speyside distillery and this expression was from an outturn of 5,779 bottle which have been bottled at what should be a very flavoursome cask strength of 55.7% ABV, naturally coloured and non-chill filtered.

You will find the current Ferg & Harris whisky range available f
rom specialist online whisky shops such as The Whisky Exchange and Master of Malt

Ferg & Harris 12 Year Old Speyside Review

Bottled at 55.7% ABV.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: A lovely sweet mix of gentle vanilla's, mild sweet treacle toffee, burnt raisin and sultana, honey and a little toasted almond.

Taste: Delicious dark sherried fruit boosted by dark Muscovado sugar sweet toffee fills the mouth, this is joined by some lovely oak spice, a touch of honeyed, zesty orange and a touch of ginger hanging around in the background.

Finish: Long, the lovely dark sherried fruit fades slowly leaving some slightly bittering dark chocolate and oak spice to have the final word.

Comment: Although only a PX sherry finish, it was certainly a decent PX cask and it has had quite an influence and created a wee bit of a sherry bomb, definitely one the sherry heads amongst you will love and the whole flavour pleasure is undoubtedly boosted by the 55.7% bottling strength.

SMW Whisky Score 90/100
