    Douglas Laing Clutha Distillery To Open Autumn 2019
    Douglas Laing this week unveiled that its new Glasgow distillery project in the heart of the city, on the banks of the River Clyde, will be named the ‘Clutha Distillery’ and it is set to produce a sherried single malt whisky.

    Douglas Laing Private Stock Ledaig 21 Year Old Web Exclusive
    Douglas Laing, the Glasgow based family owned and run Scotch whisky bottler and soon to be producer when their Clutha Distillery in Glasgow opens, today announced the forthcoming release of 'Douglas Laing Private Stock', a brand new web exclusive series which will launch this Friday with a Ledaig 21 Year Old single cask whisky.

    Scotch Malt Whisky Society 35th Anniversary Party In Edinburgh
    On Saturday 8th September, to celebrate its 35th Anniversary, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society are throwing open the gates to the normally private Queen Street Gardens. The festivities start at 12pm until 5pm and include food, drink and music, tickets are available from The SMWS website, I suspect that these will not be available long so don't hang around if you want to attend.

    The Glenallachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch 1 Review
    The Glenallachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch 1 was matured in a combination of American oak, Pedro Ximinez, Oloroso and virgin oak casks, a honey coated mix of apple, orange and raisin leads, followed closely by some vanilla toffee, cocoa and a little vibrant fresh oak spice.

    The Glenallachie 12 Year Old Review
    The Glenallachie 12 Year Old is described by Walker as 'the heart of our range', matured in a combination ex-American Bourbon Oak, Pedro Ximinez and Oloroso casks, a nice clean lightly sherried Glenallachie, certainly an easy drinker for everyday dramming.

    The Glenallachie 18 Year Old Review
    The Glenallachie 18 Year Old is said to exemplify the signature style of The Glenallachie, a combination of rich and robust spirit, matured in a combination Pedro Ximinez, Oloroso and American oak casks. The nose somewhat conceals the pleasure to come in the mouth, a delicious fruit, honey and almond mix complemented by the 18 years of oak influence on the spirit.

    The Glenallachie 25 Year Old sits at the top of the recently launched core range from the Speyside distillery. A deliciously stunning example of Glenallachie, from nose to finish this does not let you down and bottling at 48% ABV has also clearly added to the pleasure.

    Help Support Scottish Association for Mental Health
    Two Scottish control systems companies, Elite Control Systems and Asset Guardian Solutions Ltd of Livingston, Scotland who normally provide systems integration and engineering support services and who recently provided a fully operational process control system for the new Macallan distillery have teamed up to help raise at least £1,000 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health to support its ongoing efforts to provide critical mental health support services, and reduce the rising rate of suicide. They are close to raising their target figure but need just a little more help.

    Distell Limited Release Malt Collection 2018
    Distell, owner of Bunnahabhain, Deanston and Tobermory/Ledaig distilleries has unveiled its first annual limited release Distell Malt Collection, and this first batch of annual releases will feature two unique expressions each from Bunnahabhain and Ledaig and one each from Deanston and Tobermory.

    Old Pulteney New Core Range
    Old Pulteney this week unveiled their new look core range which is made up of three new single malt whiskies plus one old favourite. The new core range line-up now consists of Old Pulteney 12 Year Old, Huddart, 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old sitting at the top of the range.

    The Woodsman Scotch Blended Whisky From Whyte & Mackay
    The innovative folks at the Glasgow based whisky maker and blender Whyte & Mackay have been busy once again, last night they launched a new Scotch blended whisky called The Woodsman, described as a new modern Scotch blended whisky which gives traditional blended whisky flavours the chop.

    Chivas Teams Up With Manchester United
    Chivas has announced that they have teamed up with one of the world's biggest football clubs, Manchester United, in a three-year global partnership. The partnership will be revealed to Manchester United fans this Friday 10th August in advance of the Club’s first Premier League home game of the 2018/19 season.     Fettercairn Relaunches With Four New Single Malts
    Fettercairn Distillery owners Whyte & Mackay has announced that they are relaunching the Fettercairn single malt with the release of four new single malt whiskies, Fettercairn 12 Year Old, followed by quite a step up in years to the Fettercairn 28 Year Old; then the Fettercairn 40 Year Old and sitting at the top of the new range is the Fettercairn 50 Year Old.

    Scotch Whisky Tourism Best Year Ever
    The 2017 annual survey compiled by the Scotch Whisky Association has revealed that Scotch Whisky tourism saw record numbers of visitors in 2017, with 1.9million visits to Scotch Whisky distilleries from tourists from all over the world as well as from across the UK.

    InchDairnie Plans For Next Five Years Of Wine Cask Seasoning
    Earlier this week the InchDairnie Distillery in Fife received a visit from Spanish cooperage Toneleria J.L. Rodriguez, the purpose of the visit was to inspect the quality of their Andalusian wine casks that were recently imported to the distillery from southern Spain and to agree plans for the next five years of cask production and seasoning.

    New Mortlach Whisky Range Launched Again
    Mortlach has launched a new whisky range comprising of a 12, 16 and 20 year old expression after whisky drinkers had turned their back on the previous range which had been bottled in 50cl bottles and whisky drinkers had considered overpriced. The new Mortlach range will be presented in 70cl bottles and at least for the 12 and 16 year old at an accessible price for most.

    Rock Oyster Cask Strength Limited Edition 2 is the second and concluding edition of a two part series of cask strength Island region blended malts from Douglas Laing & Co. Edition 2 has taken a while in coming as the first edition was released over two years ago but hopefully it is a case of good things are worth waiting on.

    Johnnie Walker has just unveiled the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen special edition, which is the second bottling in its Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare series of special editions crafted using "Ghost" whiskies and other "Rare" whiskies from the Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves.

    Whisky Fuelling Tourism Growth In Moray and Speyside
    The latest figures from Moray Speyside Tourism suggest that whisky is continuing to help fuel tourism in the region. The figures suggest that the economic impact of tourism rose by a massive £11 million in 2017, with an extra 50,000 visitors compared to the previous year thanks to a combination of Whisky, the TV series Outlander and growing awareness of the beauty of the Moray coast.

    New Grant's Blended Whisky Range Line-Up
    Grant's blended Scotch whisky has overhauled its whisky line-up, a move which sees its signature blend, Grant's Family Reserve, renamed Grant's Triple Wood. The overhaul will also see three new expressions joining the Grant's blended Scotch whisky line-up, joining Grant's Triple Wood, will be the new Grant's Triple Wood Smoky, Grant's Rum Cask Finish and Grant's 8 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish completing the new look range.

    Review of
    Grant's Rum Cask Finish blended Scotch whisky is one of three new additions to the recently overhauled Grant's blended whisky range. This really is delicious, the rum cask has given this blend a deliciously moreish quality, the sweet oak and spices build after a few mouthfuls and layered between the tropical fruits it has made for an outstanding blended Scotch whisky.

At a ceremony in Edinburgh yesterday, the University of Edinburgh presented Rachel with an honorary doctorate.

    Review of the BenRiach 2005 Cask No. 2682 12 Year Old, this peated expression of the BenRiach was fully matured for 12 years in a Port cask. The nose doesn't quite let on about the fruity side of the pleasure that is to come in the mouth but the palate and lingering finish certainly lets you know what this whisky is about.

    Review of the BenRiach 2007 Cask No. 8737 10 Year Old. It is hard to believe this is only a 10 year old cask strength whisky as it is so smooth, a fine example of a Moscatel matured whisky. If you are a fan of a Pedro Ximénez matured BenRiach then you should enjoy this as this Moscatel matured whisky is very similar in style to a PX matured whisky.

    he first bottling of single malt whisky to be released from Eden Mill has sold at auction for a record-breaking price for a first release from a distillery. Bottle number 1 of 300 from the Limited Release First Bottling, the first drops of whisky to be distilled and bottled in St Andrews for nearly 160 years, achieved a record sale of £7,100 through Whisky Auctioneer.

    At the end of this year’s Spirit of Speyside Festival Glen Moray was thrilled to be awarded two out of the five whisky awards, with their Glen Moray Chardonnay Cask Finish winning the No Age category beating The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Cask Finish into second place. In the 13-20 year category the superb Glen Moray Elgin Heritage 18 year old took the honours with Aberlour 18 year old in second place.

    All seven whiskies entered by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2018 won double gold medals.
    Their gold haul included Cask No. 29.224 We arrived! (from the Laphroaig Distillery) being awarded a double gold medal and ‘Best in show’, beating approximately 1000 whiskies entered into the competition.

    Black Bowmore Fetches £11,900 At Auction
    Those of you that were lucky enough to buy a bottle of Black Bowmore 1964 2nd release from Oddbins for £93 back in 1994 when it was first released and then drunk it may just want to stop reading now as a bottle of the Black Bowmore 1964 30 Year Old 2nd Edition has just sold at auction for £11,900. I bought 2 bottles when it was first released which have long since past by my tonsils.
