Description: This is an extremely rare Benromach 55 year old whisky. It is an exceptional Speyside Single Malt which has been matured for a massive 55 years in a refill Bourbon barrel. It is rich and mellow, with a hint of smoke. Well balanced with poise and presence.
Tasting Notes: The colour is bright orange gold.
Undiluted the nose is sweet with rich fruit aromas of orange peel and red apple skins. A delicate perfumed note and spices - cinnamon stick. A subtle smoky edge with traces of menthol and hessian. It coats the mouth with an oily texture, oak and peat smoke flavours combine. Sweet elements and some herbal flavours and a hint of spearmint.
With Water the nose is sweet with chocolate aromas laced with concentrated fruit notes (strawberry jam). Hints of nutmeg and cinnamon add to the balance. The body is mellow and rich. In the mouth there is smoky notes initially with resinous oak flavours. Rich fruit notes emerge with a rounding dark chocolate edge. The finish is slightly sweet with traces of fruit and smoke.
