Laphroaig 10 Year Old 40% ABV / Distillery Bottling Category: Islay Compare Prices: Laphroaig
Description: The label proudly proclaims, The most richly flavoured of all the Scotch whiskies. And it is. No one forgets their first experience of Laphroaig, the pharmaceutical nose combined with smouldering driftwood and a heavy dose of sea air. Welcome to a whisky of extremes and a true legend of Islay.
Tasting Notes: Iodine, smoke and sea air abound on the nose with support from satsuma, clove, ginger peel and vanilla pod aromas. Intense and concentrated on the palate with masses of complexity and a long, spicy finish.
Method of Production: Laphroaig is one of only two distilleries on Islay to retain its own floor maltings, producing roughly 30% of its requirements from two runs a week - the malt is peated to between 54 and 60 p.p.m. Water is sourced from the Kilbride Dam and fermentation takes place in 6 stainless steel washbacks using distillers yeast. Laphroaigs copper stills are notoriously small and maturation takes place predominantly in 200 litre first-fill Kentucky barrels.
