Description: This little monster follows in the footsteps of the outrageously popular Black Bowmore - (its gone for good. It has ceased to be!) The Darkest is a good deal more affordable, slightly more available, but no less impressive.
Tasting Notes: Dark and full, brooding and robust with molasses and dried fruits much in evidence before a rich finish.
Method of Production: Floor maltings give the malt a peat reek from heating by fires of local peat. The maltings dont supply all Bowmores needs but help maintain 20-25ppm of phenolic flavour compounds in the malt. Ground malt mixed with pure River Lagan water ferments in pine washbacks. The small beer distils twice, in pot stills producing spirit that mellows for 12 years in old Bourbon casks. Darkness came from extra ageing in Oloroso Sherry butts after Bourbon cask aging.
