Bruichladdich 12 Year Old Second Edition
    46% ABV / Distillery Bottling
    Category: Islay

    Description:
The first edition of the 12 year old was made up half ex-Sherry barrels. This bottling however is 100% ex-Bourbon cask, though with a combination of first fill and refill. Though this gives a slight vanillary sweetness it has no dried or candied fruit notes, with the fruit that is present very much of the fresh and tangy variety. This 12 year old takes off where the 10 year old finished i.e. a lighter style aperitif malt.

Tasting Notes: The nose starts with pear, gooseberry, apricot and apple, encased in sweet and mellow seasoned oak with just a hint of Bourbon and soft vanilla. This moves onto butterscotch and floral aromas of mountain thyme, wild gorse, primrose and buttercup. Then its the turn of the toasted malted barley, sweet and crisp, bringing contrast and balance.

Method of Production: Made from Optic barley peated at only 3ppm phenolic content, then matured for 12 years in a combination of first fill and refill American Bourbon barrels. The whisky was bottled at 46% and non chill filtered to preserve as much flavour as possible.
