The Balvenie Roasted Malt 14 Year Old 47.1% ABV / Distillery Bottling Category: Speyside Compare Prices: Balvenie
Description: In the summer of 1992, a batch of barley was germinated over 24 hours (as opposed to the usual five days) before being kiln dried, heated in a roasting drum at a temperature of 200°C and mixed with traditional malted barley before the mashing stage. The barley was completely roasted to between 1600 and 1800 European Brewing Colour units: normal malted barley only reaches around 30 EBCs.
Tasting Notes: The nose shows typical Speyside characteristics of fruity, floral and honey notes plus subtle overtones of toasted oats, vanilla and spicy oakiness. The palate is rich and malty with a silky smooth mouth feel; hints of toffee, marmalade, honey and oak tannin all enveloped with a spicy, vanilla sweetness.
Method of Production: Vatted from a single batch of just 43 casks that were filled from spirit distilled in 1992. It was non-chill filtered prior to bottling at 47.1% alcohol by volume.
