Description: This bottle of Glenrothes 1994 contains character and complexity with a zestiness which may pleasantly surprise even the most regular of Glenrothes enthusiasts.
Glenrothes does not produce their single malts with a years old minimum age statement, but instead, releases specific vintages. In this case the very best casks from 1994 (with the bottling date individually written on each bottle). Like fine wines, the personality of each vintage will vary whilst the distillery character remains the same.
Tasting Notes: Clear, bright and pale gold in colour with a fruity nose and hints of toffee and marshmallow. The palate is soft and fruity with quite a hit of citrus leading to a long finish.
Method of Production: Lightly peated Scottish malted barley is ground and mashed with hot spring water in a mash tun. The water is drawn from the distillerys private spring in the nearby Glen Dounie. The wort is cooled and fermented in largewooden washbacks. The wash is then distilled twice in uniquely onion-shapedcopper pot stills (the boiling bowl is above the ogee to increase reflux). The new make spirit, which is very sweet and fruity, is placed in mainly American oak (butts, puncheons & hogsheads) but also some Spanish oak to mature for approximately twelve years. The vintage release is then created by vatting specially selected casks from one year, which is then chill filtered and bottled.
