Review of Ledaig 1998 19 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish
Distell 2018 Malt Whisky Collection.
This
Ledaig 1998 19 Year Old Oloroso Sherry
Cask Finish is one of two Ledaig 19 year
old expressions in Distell's inaugural
Malt Whisky Collection.
Initially matured for just under 6 years
after being distilled in traditional oak
whisky casks it was then finished in
Oloroso sherry casks for almost 14
years.
Bottled at 46.3% ABV, natural colour and
non chill filtered, a limited release of
2,400 bottles in total.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A gentle sweet heather honey smokiness,
a touch of lemon citrus and orange, a
little oak spice.
Taste:
Orange and lemon infused smoky bacon
leads leads the charge then gives way to
some spice and some bittersweet dark
chocolate and some nuttiness.
Finish:
Longish, mildly spicy finish, smoky
bacon, the bittersweet dark chocolate
becomes oaky, mildly drying and a little
salty.
Comment:
I would say this is one which would
really grow on you after a few drams.
Bottled at 46.3% ABV. I would loved to
have tasted it at cask strength but even
at this strength it is a pleasure.
SMW Score
84/100
