Kirstie McCallum Glen Moray's new Head Of Whisky.

The Glen Moray Distillery announced this week that they have appointed Dr Kirstie McCallum as its new Head of Whisky Creation. This is a newly-created role with McCallum taking on responsibility for whisky creation and stocks.

Kirstie will be responsible for continuing and developing the legacy of Glen Moray Single Malt, as well as other whiskies in the parent company La Martiniquaise-Bardinet’s portfolio, including world-famous Scotch whisky blends Cutty Sark, Label 5 and Sir Edward’s.

Kirstie comes to Glen Moray from Distell International where she was Senior Blender for three years, having worked in the business for over 12 years and was responsible for single malts Bunnahabhain, Deanston and Tobermory as well as the company's blended whiskies. She has a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Glasgow Caledonian Distillery.

I am sure those of you familiar with what Kirstie has done for Bunnahabhain, Deanston and Tobermory (including Ledaig) during her time as senior blender for the brands will be hoping she can bring her creative whisky blending talents to the Glen Moray distillery and hopefully we will see some interesting good quality whiskies from Glen Moray in the near future which are still affordable to dram and I am sure we will given the quality of the spirit they produce at the Glen Moray distillery which Kirstie will have to work with. Some 46% ABV, non chill-filtered, naturally coloured offerings will be very welcome.

As I am sure you know Kirstie has taken over from Graham Coull who was Master Distiller at Glen Moray for 14 years and recently moved to start a new position as master distiller of Dingle distillery in Ireland. During his time at Glen Moray Coull oversaw the expansion of the distillery and developed several award-winning cask expressions which have become part of Glen Moray’s range of signature malts.

Glen Turner General Manager, Ian McLaren, says, "We are very much looking forward to this next chapter in the long history of Glen Moray and look forward to learning from Kirstie’s extensive knowledge and experience across a wide spectrum of the industry."

Kirstie commented, "I am really excited about the opportunities this role will offer, working with world renowned brands such as Glen Moray, Label 5 and Cutty Sark and Sir Edward’s. There is a great opportunity to experiment with new cask types and to develop new expressions, using the expansive knowledge of other wine and spirit experts within the La Martiniquaise-Bardinet group."

You will also find current Glen Moray whisk range including the recently launched excellent Glen Moray 21 Year Old Portwood Finish available from specialist online whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange, The Whisky Shop and Master of Malt
