If you knew someone who wanted to try a Auchentoshan which one would you suggest? Or would you just say don't bother? |

I'd start with the 12. Gives you a good idea of what to expect without breaking the bank. Although I much prefer the 3 wood for a few quid more. |

Not really sure about the new stuff it all seems a bit lacklustre apart from the 18 year which I really liked but from an auctions point of view the old 10 year white label at 43% was enjoyable and I have had a few bottles of the 21 43% which I rate very highly and if the auction price is ok I would purchase them but they are over £100 now sadly.
From an IB perspective Signatory have bottled some decent one for the u- chill filtered collection. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

I've tried the 12, the 15 and the three wood.
Of them all the three wood is the only one i'd actually consider buying as it had a lovely comforting sweetness and warmth. The two standard age statement bottlings were just 'boring' to me. Better drams out there for the money. |

Personally I think the Auchentoshan Three Wood is their best whisky by a country mile, it is the only one which has bags of flavour and you can purchase it from Amazon for £35 at the moment, which is a bargain |

For an intro to Auchentoshan I would suggest the 12 year old, the 18 is okish but I don't think it is great value for what it is, the 21 is excellent. Is the Bartenders Malt still around, you used to be able to pick it up on Amazon for a decent price and it was a decent whisky. |

It depends what someone wants. The American Oak is simple and straight forward with subtle notes. It's pleasant and still worth a gentle nose and sip.

Like anything I think it depends what is expected before the experience and the comparisons. |

For it not to be rubbish?
I jest
Oddly, the one one I've had is Blood Oak which is finished in Red Wine Casks. I tasted it when I was passing through an Airport and loved it so bought a bottle then the next time I tasted it I really didn't like it. That pattern continued - some days I would really enjoy it and others it would leave me cold - it's the only Whisky I've had like that. |

If it were me I’d try get samples of an older batch of threewood, also the 21 and any of the BYO. .. other than that I’d go for indie bottling or ask a toshan fan for some samples.. |

To the American oak detractors it's worth noting the price point of around £20 you're never going to get top quality. What you do get is an accessable dram at around the same price point as Jameson's or bushmills standard offerings which it stands up well against. Personally I Like the unique ( for scotch) triple distilled element of Auchentoshan and it fairs well against Irish equivalents priced similarly across the range Somehow it's more whisky not whiskey like, but still a bit different. |
