Hi all,
I received some keepsakes from my Grandfathers estate recently. They are housed in a purple bag with gold stitching that reads:
Pinwinnie
XII Year Olde Scotch

The cross in the P, the Y, O and S are all stitched in red.

I noticed a 1980's bag was 100% gold thread and wondered if anyone had a rough idea of when it may have been produced? I am assuming the 1960's or 1970's but I am not sure what period it was produced, if the bag was in use the whole time or whether there are set styles over different periods.

I know this is a bit long-winded but I am trying to compile a family history and since both my Grandfather, father and older Brother have all passed there is no-one else to ask!

Thanks for any help

If you look in https://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com/auctions/search/?area=all&q=pinwinnie your will notice that the bags with the red stitching you mention all contain 75° proof / 26 2/3 fl oz bottles the fl oz bottle size and the proof strength measurement were both discontinued in 1980 so you can only say for sure is what you have was from at least the 1970's which I suspect,

Thanks for that. It fits with what I surmised. I haven't been able to find anything online showing any changes over time. The only challenge now is to find one to drink! I believe I will need to find an older bottle as they changed the proof rating? I just don't want to buy a decent collectors bottle and "waste" it. Throwback to stamp collecting!
