This is in reality an early 1960`s distilled Brora.
Nose
Salty brine, peat, farmyard smells, it is all there.
I suppose you would describe this as coastal, with the brine & seaweed notes but there is also faint hints of smoke, charred wood, wet hay, smells fresh and zesty.
Palate
Very creamy and very peaty, like an Islay on steroids, there are hints of fruit such as apple and lemon that gradually come through but the peat & pepper combo are really something.
There is a little lemon drizzle cake taste in there but the peat just keeps on growing
Finish
Really long, with the peat growing and getting a little salty
With water:
Pretty much the same with a few wet earth notes creeping in to add to the farmy character.
The water just released a little more white fruit and checked the peat a little so your tongue can breath again.
I had a 71 rotation of this but I cannot remember it being this peaty, a great malt. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

Sounds like one I would enjoy. Cheers. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I would be surprised if you didn'tQuaich1 but these old Clynelish are very expensive these days, I will say however that if you tell yourself it is a young Brora (rare) and it was distilled around 1960, then it looks much more of a bargain I suppose? _________________ Pour me a glass please. |
