Is there any information as to what age this is, what are the youngest casks in the mix?

I think it is quite obvious that there isn't any age info as it would have been clearly stated on the bottle or at least in the article, no different really from previous Ardbeg Day or Committee bottlings. Being an Ardbeg fan it wont stop me giving it a try and it will be interesting to see what a rum cask Ardbeg is like.

Yes it is indeed obvious that that there is no age information from the distillery , I just wanted to know if anyone had heard a whisper as to how old the youngest casks were in the mix , there is no harm in asking?

It is not something we see much of, one of the big peaty whiskies with a rum influence, it should be interesting to try as you say Bookie but I suppose that's the point in the Ardbeg Day/Committee bottlings to give us a chance to try something different. I would think it would have to have had quite a long rum cask finish to have had a big impact on the peaty bourbon matured Ardbeg.

Very true there has been very little rum cask whiskies from the big peaty Islay whisky producers, I recall some rum finished Old Malt Cask Laphroaigs from Douglas Laing about 10 years ago which were around 18/19 year old which the sugars from the rum did subdue the peat a little, they were good and interesting although not brilliant and perhaps why we don't see many peat and rum mixes.

I will probably grab a bottle of the Ardbeg Drum as I am a Ardbeg lemming, not happy with the price but I could probably say that about all the Islay distilleries Feis Ile releases.

Rum, when made properly, does not contain sugars. It's a clear, sugar free distilled alcohol; sugar cannot pass through the distillation process any more in rum than it can in whisky.

The issue comes with which distillery they got their casks from. Many rum producers add sugar to their rum after distillation, some of them add the sugar when the rum is in the cask while others add it during blending. DDL (Demerara Distillers Limited), who produce the El Dorado brand among others, are known to coat their casks in molasses prior to filling - but this is only for some of the marques of rum they produce; they have many different stills and can produce many different types of rum. The ones destined for "Navy" blends, like Pussers, tend to have that cask treatment.

So, if they've source from DDL, which is likely as Hamish Scott did work at Diamond (the main distillery that now holds all the DDL stills), and they've source something like Navy marque Enmore still casks, then it may have some sugar influence....

From the tasting notes though it sounds more like higher ester Port Mourant casks in the main (lots and lots of them about) - a rum that is full of banana, green apples, sappy pine and herbal florals, such as aniseed.

Lets see Very Happy

I may.....may....pick one up.

That is a massive price change £240 from the £95 Shocked

How do they know they are going to get all the bottles that people have ordered if it is committee release?
