Diageo has announced that they are returning to the booming Irish whiskey market with the launch of a brand new premium Irish blended whiskey named Roe & Co.

They have also revealed plans for a Â£18.6 million investment at the Guinness Power House site, St Jamesâ€™s Gate, Dublin to convert it to a whiskey distillery which will one day produce whiskey which will go into the new Roe & Co whiskey brand.

You have got to wonder if Diageo did tuck away some whisky before parting with Bushmills with this move in mind.

I am sure the likes of Pernod Ricard and William Grant have have sat up and taken notice of Diageos move here. If Diageo has not stock piled a load of whiskey, both malt and grain, from when they owned Bushmills then they will have to rely of the likes of Pernod Ricard to supply them with enough whiskey for the Roe & Co blend. It is a strange world the whisky business.

Cheers William, just spotted your post on this. it is the first I have heard of it. I wonder what makes the new Roe & Co a premium blend and what price will it be? I do like the fact that it will be bottled at 45% ABV, there aren't enough Irish whiskies bottled over 40% and almost no big brand Irish blends bottled above 40%.

I make that Â£30 a bottle then, certainly priced as a premium NAS Irish blend. No surprise really with the price given the pricing on Jamesons ever expanding range of premium NAS blended whiskies which are by the way very good.

Diageo hadn't confirmed to me what the price of Roe & Co will be here in the UK but I would guess it will be around Â£30. If it is as good as some of the outstanding Jameson blends it will sell very easily at that price.
