I've done a search but couldn't find a topic about this, I hope it's not against any forum rules either.

Do any of you swap samples with each other? Would anybody be up for swapping a few samples?

I'd be interested in this, but only in person, can't be bothered to post stuff. Where are you based?

Sounds like a great idea. In principle, I'd be up for it. However, as Alexppp says, geography could be an issue.

I'm currently about 40 bottles into working my way through '101 whiskys to try before you die'. I've been purchasing full bottes as I go along. A sample swapping could potentially save me a fortune Smile

Hi Alexpp, I'm in Preston, North West UK.

I know that users of this forum are spread far and (world)wide so this may not even be possible, in person or by post (given some of the country/regional restrictions).

On the other hand if it's something people want to make work I'm sure we can find a way to make it happen Smile

It's just an idea at the moment, but even if only a handful of us are up for it we could probably make something work. Obviously depends on the details (sample sizes, whiskys in question, costs etc etc) and as you say the geography could be an issue...

Sounds like a great mission Smile

Another option could be some sort of bottle share.

If you wish I can create a section on the forum for those looking to exchange whisky samples, strictly no selling samples on the open forum though. Let me know what you think gents.

Hi William

I think a dedicated Sample Exchange section would be great. Totally agree, selling samples was not what I was suggesting at all, there are plenty of places online to buy samples if that's what people want to do. I saw this more as a way for people to get to try a wider variety of drams without having to always buy full bottles as that gets really expensive! I'd love to do something like this on a local/personal level but there just doesn't seem to be the interest where I am, which was why I asked the question in the first place.

I'm not sure exactly how it would work but I'm guessing people would post a list of their open bottles that they are happy to exchange samples from and then if an agreement can be reached between two individuals they send each other other the samples.

I appreciate that something like this could be open to abuse and at the end of the day it's a trust based thing, I can't imagine the value of the any samples being swapped will be very large as that would be a massive risk to post out a sample of something old/rare/expensive to someone you may have never met. Obviously the responsibilty rests with the individual but as we're all hopefully here for the same reasons I'd hope there wouldn't be any issues Smile

Could always set a few guidelines - like SMWS dram pricing. Have a few colours or symbols that reflect the price of the whisky, then you have an idea of what level people would swap at without talking money.

£0-5 = green
£5-10 = blue
£10-15 = red
£15-20 = purple
£20+ = black

Or something. List your whiskies under the colours you are comfortable with, then swap away. People would have to maintain their post to add and remove stuff but that is fairly simple.
