Saw this in the Scotsman, a 90 year old single malt, from the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown was sold for £1500 at Bonhams whisky auction in Edinburgh. Now that is an expensive double.
Bonhams' whisky consultant Martin Green said: "Springbank is very highly rated in the single malt world, and this is a 1919 the very earliest vintage put on the open market.
"It is iconic, highly collectable, exclusive and also highly drinkable.
You'd get two or maybe three good measures out of it."
Other highlights from the Bonhams auction were a limited edition 40-year-old Macallan, which fetched £3,600, and a rare bottle from the closed Port Ellen distillery on Islay which was sold for £1,620. It was produced to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Port Ellen malting.
