Cutty Black, the latest expression of Cutty Sark whisky, is to be rolled out by World Equity Brand Builders in the Caribbean and Latin American markets, following a successful launch in Puerto Rico.
Brand owner Berry Bros & Rudd Spirits appointed World Equity Brand Builders to represent Cutty Sark and The Glenrothes in the key markets of Latin America and the Caribbean in April 2008.

World Equity Brand Builders said: "Cutty Black adheres to the same whisky-blending philosophy that has made Cutty Sark one of the world's best-loved blended Scotch whiskies; it is convivial, smooth with some sweetness, emphasising the Speyside malts at its heart. However, where Cutty Original is a benchmark for elegant, subtle aperitif-style blended whisky, Cutty Black has more of a maritime influence - the introduction of some peaty Islay malts giving a taste of the sea - making it a perfect after-dinner drink."

Cutty Sark Brand Director Yves Cosentino added: "Cutty Black is, literally, the dark side of Cutty Sark and has been created for consumers looking for an easy-to-drink, after-dinner option. Cutty Black has been very well-received in Puerto Rico and we are confident of its success in other markets."?

Cutty Black is made from a selection of over 20 single malt whiskies, predominantly from Speyside, but with the addition of some Islay malts, blended with top quality grain whiskies and is matured in American oak casks giving it vanilla and soft spice notes.

Once matured, the malts are blended together, as are the grain whiskies, before they are returned to oak casks to marry for up to six months, to ensure consistency of colour and flavour.

More and more of the blends seem to releasing Islay influenced versions of the blends, which is great news.

I dont know if we will ever see Cutty Black here but as Alastair says there are a few good Islay influenced blends around, Black Bottle and The Famous Grouse Black come to mind.
