|
You may already have come across this one as I have been a little slow off the mark announcing it but i only just got to taste it last night and have just added a piece to the Whisky News section about the new Balvenie 12 Year Old Single Barrel First Fill, which as its title suggests has been matured exclusively in a single first fill American ex-Bourbon barrel for 12 years.
The Balvenie 12 year Single Barrel effectively replaces the much loved Balvenie 15 year old Single Barrel but for a while at least you will see both together on the the shelves in whisky shops as The Balvenie 15 year old Single Barrel will be slowly phased out.
The Balvenie 12 Year Old Single Barrel First Fill is bottled at 47.8% abv and is a non chill-filtered, as we like it.
At £45 a bottle for a single cask 47.8% abv non chill-filtered distillery bottling of this quality in today's market is not bad at all.
More about it and my tasting note here:

William
I have tried the First Fill 12 yr old Single Barrel and agree it is very good, whilst visiting Balvenie last year the tour I was on went into Wharehouse 24 and tried three samples from three different aged casks one of them and the one I bought was a 12 yr old first fill bourbon cask it was fantastic, I wonder if we were being used to decide on the next release as detailed accounts were kept of the samples bought by the group I was in, the other two casks were a 12 yr old sherry and 14 yr old bourbon both also very nice.

Have been in touch with one of the Balvenie twitter feeds. Demand for this bottling is very high, so they have released several different casks in this first wave. _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |
