What silent still(s) you would like to see reopened/rebuild?
I would start with Port Ellen and Rosebank, never could understand why these quit production.
I can`t remember but weren`t they both owned by Diageo?

Eric, Diageo did indeed own Port Ellen they acquired it in 1983 but at that time it was decided that it was surplus to their requirements as they already owned the Caol Ila and Lagavulin distilleries which produced similar style whiskies. Also at the time there was a bit of a slump in whisky sales so they mothballed Port Ellen.
Unfortunately the stillhouse at Port Ellen was demolished in 2003 so it almost certain that the Port Ellen distillery will never produce malt whisky again. I wonder if they would take the same decision today to demolish the stillhouse given the worldwide increase in demand for whisky.
Port Ellen is the distillery i would like to see producing again but i guess it will never happen

It is a nice thought to think there was a chance Port Ellen would produce again but i dont think that is going to happen, due to the fact they demolished the stillhouse.
Eric you will find a few silent distilleries have reopened recently or have been scheduled to reopen. The ones which come to mind are Glenglassaugh, Annandale, Braeval and i believe the new owner of Whyte & MacKay have reopened the Tamnavulin distillery which had sat idle for over 10 years. I think you will find more info on most of these in the news section of the forum.
