I was looking through the older section of my liquor cabinet and found a forgotten yet opened bottle of Hiram Walker Special Old Rye Whisky 1.14 litres bottled in 1988 in Canada. The bottle is almost full and the color looks fine. The last time anyone had a dram from it was at least 20 years. Do you think it is drinkable?

I don't see why not. If it's been in a cool, dry cupboard the whole time it should be fine, i.e. not in sunlight, etc. But IANAD. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

It's been in a dark cabinet all those years in an area with no windows. Sounds promising! _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Finally decided to try this old bottle today of Hiram Walker Special Old Rye Whisky bottled in 1988. A full bodied whisky that packs a real punch with varnish and pickling spice, bay leaf, spearmint, sweet leather and a super long finish. A bit rough around the edges neat but opened nicely with water. Has been in my cupboard since 1988 when I bought it and I don't know when it was distilled As I indicated earlier it was last opened about 20 years ago before today . Nice to bring it out now and again for a wee dram of a piece of Canadian history.
