With Albo's topic about sulphur raising some discussion on the Single Malt Whisky forum I thought we should establish just whether this is a big issue or not. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

Personally, a lot of sulphur in a single malt dram turns me off the dram as well as leaving a foul aftertaste. A transient hint of sulfur doesn'tt really bother me and may add a layer of complexity. Actually, I haven't really encountered very many sulfur infused single malts. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I've voted against sulphur. Y'all may be shocked, but it's true |

Sulphur most definitely spoils my enjoyment but i believe some are more sensitive to it than others. |

I can't say I've ever detected sulphur in whisky. Maybe it's not really an issue with distillery bottlings, since I haven't tried many independents. |

I cant say i have had any so bad i cant drink it. Jim Murray refers to just a touch of sulphur for a number of whiskies in his whisky bible but i did not detect it, perhaps it was a different batch i was drinking or i am simply not as sensitive to it. |

It is more obvious in limited editions or single cask bottlings but in large scale bottlings the odd sulphur tainted cask just disappears into the mix and it is only those who are very sensitive to it who will detect it. |

Sulphur puts me off a whisky completely, its a terrible taste IMO, so much so I tend to avoid whiskys now which have been matured in sherry or wine casks, its too expensive to buy only to find it has a sulphor taste, where other batches may not, its an expensive gamble. |

What is the point in reading about a limited edition indie bottling of only 200 bottles in the whisky bible a year after it was released, as i say there is a lack of up to the minute reviews of small batch independent bottlings otherwise i would probably be buying more of them. |
