Hi Claire

The Bowmore 1964 Bicentenary is widely considered as one of the best Bowmores ever produced. In a whisky specialist shop this can sell for up to £1200. In a private sale or auction you may get around £600, perhaps a lot more just depends who the bidders are on the day.

You have a few options for selling it.

Some specialist whisky shops buy as well as sell rare and collectable whisky, it costs nothing to contact them to see what they may offer you. You could try The Whisky Exchange or Whisky Online

There are a few specialist whisky auctions you could try, if you contact them and give them the full details of your bottle including images they should be able to give you an estimate. The auctions are Bonhams McTears and there is a new online auction www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com

There is always ebay which can sometimes be most profitable, just be sure to set a reserve price you are willing to accept.

Hi,

Please don't forget Tennants Auctioneers also have Fine Whisky sales now ( for whom I am their valuer).

We have a bottle of this in this Saturdays sale, this is the link, http://www.tennants.co.uk/Catalogue/Lots/126237.aspx,
and as you can see the estimate is £300-500.

If you check the website again on Monday the sale price will be listed so you will have a very accurate figure of what you can expect.

I hope this helps.

Mark the bottle you have is the Bowmore Bicentenary and i would say would fetch around £500 top price at auction.

However, Claires bottle is the Bowmore 1964 Bicentenary which is widely considered as the best of the Bicentenary bottlings and usually fetches a higher price as William said

Hi,

My bad! Your totally right. There have been several bottles of the 1979 go through sales this year, two at Mctears, they made £550 and £600, and Bonhams also sold one for around £600 recently.

So in this instance, and auction estimate of £400-600 would be prudent.

Hope this helps.

I would say £500 to £700 is a fair price but like the other guys have said bare in mind the fees at auction!

The 1979 bottle made £600 at the Auction, so maybe the trend is continuing to steadily climb! There seems to be no stopping prices this year.

So you may want to look for a little more for your bottle given the current climate! A valuation is only an opinion at the end of the day.

Hi Claire,

Good luck with your sale, if your bottle does not sell on ebay why not try our new site www.deluxwhiskyauctions.co.uk which is dedicated to whisky sales, our new site will go live in the middle of July and will be a cheaper option for you to sell with, we would also give you a free reserve price, to ensure your item does not sell for less than you want.
