Just been given a bottle of Hazelwood 110 from a friend who is a William Grants employee, they were given it to celebrate Janet Sheed Roberts' 110th birthday and it says that it is a blend of rare whiskies.

Is this one for drinking or one to keep? I did some research online already and it seems that some people are selling their bottles on eBay for £450 apiece, which seems mad, but that would make it a bottle to put away as an investment, as I can see that it will only appreciate in value as people drink the stuff, or it goes into the hands of collectors.

I'm not looking to sell the bottle, just want advice on what to do with it. It's beautifully presented, in a case, with a letter from the chairman of William Grants and a sealed envelope in the box, which I haven't yet opened, for fear of ruining a potential heirloom. If it is really is worth a lot of money, I will speak to my friend, because I don't think she was aware it was valuable

That is a very nice gift you were given, i was just reading about Janet Roberts here www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/scotlandsoldestlady.htm

The bottle you have will be considered very collectable and will probably fetch more than £450. They released a bottle in 2001 to commemorate Janet Sheed Roberts 100th birthday, this now sells for up to £700 if you can find one.

William Grants also released a bottle to celebrate her 105th birthday and the first public release of Hazelwood was in 2008 to celebrate Janet Sheed Roberts 107th. The 2008 bottle currently sells for £650 in whisky specialist shops.

Thanks for the replies, just glad we didn't crack it open for a dram to try it! I will speak to my friend and make her aware of the value and probably give it back for her to keep, as it is definitely one for keeping. Thanks for the replies, much appreciated to get an honest unbiased opinion.
