Hi folks,

Does anyone have any recommendations as to which are the best places to sell bottes of single malt whisky?

I am based in Essex and it can be difficult to get bottles to auctioneers.

I haven't sold a bottle since back in the day when eBay allowed it.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chris

What are you selling? There is a section on here for selling bottles. Additionally, do a search on Facebook. Lots of sell/swap/sample/buy groups. Or auction. There is a pretty decent whisky auction in London (whisky.auction).

Are there any particular whisky-centric Facebook groups you would recommend?

I'm in a lot of photography buy/sell/trade/discussion groups on Facebook, some of which are excellent. I hadn't thought to look for whisky ones.

I am a member of several sites on Facebook but I would not recommend them as a selling platform.

People will naturally always want the best bargain they can get but the offers just lead to frustration. I have always achieved better prices at auction.

I'm in Scotland so I am perhaps luckier to be able to drop bottles off but some companies offer collection or you can post the bottles to them.

It really all depends on the what you have, the value of it and how much you need or want to sell.

If you are in a hurry and need cash then Facebook would suit.
If you have high end bottles then auction or advertising on specialist forums like this would suit.
If you are not too bothered either way then auction is best. Some companies offer 0% commission and only charge the listing fee and a fee for any reserve.

Rather than see the bottles go abroad to auction, let the forum know what you have and what you would like to achieve on the selling page and that will be greatly appreciated.

Very nice!

If I were you i'd speak to whiskyhammer. They offer free collection any where in the UK and are rated very highly. I've bought a few things and they've been great.

Try MailBoxes Etc. At my local one, you can simply take bottles into the shop. They package them and arrange dispatch. They even offer comprehensive insurance (2%)

Thank you. Those are some excellent suggestions that I will definitely be employing.

Can anyone recommend the best services e,g. DHL for sending bottles within Europe? Or, does someone MailBoxes Etc take that in to account already?

I've had someone ask me to send a bottle to Germany but many carriers specify alcoholic beverages in their prohibited items?

Many thanks,

Chris

Try my Hermes - not sure if they carry whisky but I've heard very good things about them (my missus uses them to post lots of stuff via her eBay shop)

try scotch whisky auctions in Glasgow I have dealt with them and had no problems
they have there own couriers speak to them and they will sort it out for you
I use my hermes when I have sold elsewhere not to bad but most wont give you any money back on insurance as glass or alcohol are not covered
and sending abroad is dodgy on your own as you are not a company

Personally, in your position, I'd use MailBoxesEtc to send to Scotch Whisky Auctions.

Let's say that MailboxesEtc charges £12 a bottle (erring on the side of caution), with Scotch Whisky Auctions charging £6 a bottle.

That's a maximum of £18 a bottle all told. In percentage terms, given the value of most of your bottles, that's nothing

For a collection you have I'm sure Scotch Whisky Auctions will pick up. Give them a call as I know Tam does regular runs down South every month, they have picked up from me in the past but have a minimum requirement. Your collection is way way above that.
