Hi

I am new to the delights of single malt whisky and was hoping to get a few ideas for my next purchase.

I am trying to keep myself to a budget of under £30 per botlle and was hoping you could give me a few ideas by telling me what your favourite whiskies are for less than £30.

Cheeers

Thanks for all your recommendations everyone.

I have checked out the whiskies you have recommended in the A to Z of single malts on this site. I think i might give the smoky Islay malts a miss until i have a few others under my belt.

Anyway thanks again for your suggestions, i have now compiled a shopping list of malts to buy.

Cheers

Tony

For under £30 i would go for the Highland Park 12 year old or the Aberlour 10 which if you shop around you can usually find for under £20 my other choice would be the Talisker 10 which has also been available recently for around £20 in Tesco and Asda supermarkets

Aberlour 10 is a great call, as is the Talisker 10, but the Aberlour 16 (for me at least) surpasses the 10 year old and can be picked up for £30:

The Laphroig 10 is also excellent, but more of an acquired taste.

I havent yet got around to trying the Aberlour 16 i didnt actually realise it was priced under £30. Although i do like the Aberlour a'bunadh which is usually only a few pound more.

As far as the Aberlour 10 is concerned IMO it is one of the best value for money malts on the market, i always have a bottle in my whisky cabinet.

Same here. I find it tends to go down well with visitors who don't drink whisky a great deal.

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum.

I have always been an Aberlour fan but I havent tried the Aberlour 16 either, i thought it was only produced for the French market or have i got that wrong.

Has the Aberlour 16 year old now replaced the 15 year old as part of Aberlour core range here in the UK.

Hi William,

Thanks for the welcome. You're right, the 16 was only available in France before now, but it's available online here in the UK too. I had it for the first time at a recent trip to the distillery and was suitably impressed.

Tony,
Depending where you buy the - £30 malts I could mention about 50, and most of them are good to exellent malts. If you want I'll send you a PM listing the malts. (to much to put on this Post. Rene

Rene, I wouldnt mind seeing a copy of the list of these 50 whiskies if it isnt too much bother. I am quite new to the world of single malts myself and i am always looking for recommendations for malts i havent tried yet.

Cheers Richard
