|
|
Hello everyone
I've been scouring online to try finding a valuation for the bottle of bells I have laying around the house, which would be up to date and a true reflection of it's value. Let me describe it as best I can from what I see and I will take then upload a picture soon after when I find the necessary cable for my camera.
*Brown and tan Wade Bells decanter - sealed, although the seal has split in two places it has not been removed.
*Sticker reads "Bells Old Scotch Whiskey, specially selected, distilled blended & bottled in scotland, 6,2/3fl oz, 70 proof"
*Underside of the decanter reads "WADE, Bells Scotch Whiskey, Perth Scotland"
I hope this is a little insight until I can take some pictures and upload them. I should mention that I know nothing much about whiskey at all so if you have any questions I will do my very best to answer them as accurately as I can.
Many thanks,
Joanne. |

Hi Joanne
If you take a look over at The Whisky Exchange shop they have a number or Bells decanters, they may have one similar to yours. It sounds like your bottle is the standard Brown and tan Wade Bells decanter, usually the decanters released to mark a special occasin or event are worth more. Value depends on age, condition (including seal), does it have a box. Also the prices you see in the shops are not wht you would receive in a private sale, you may get as little as half the shop amount in a private sale |

Thanks for the reply Archer, I've taken a look at the whiskey exchange site and can't see mine listed there. Although I'm sure I saw they were selling one smaller than mine a while ago. There's no box with this one and the seal is still there although it does have a couple of splits, but isn't removeable, if that makes sense. Still looking for the camera cable too!
Thanks again

Hi Joanne
Up until January 1st 1980 the UK used "proof" strength of spirits to show the strength of alcohol. Tehy changed it to what we use today Percentage of Alcohol by Volume %ABV.
Also in the UK up until 1980 standard size bottles were measured in flozs, they then changed to ml in 1980. Therefore a 26 2/3 flozs bottle size changed to 750ml in 1980.
Therefore your decanter was probably bottled before 1980.
I see see your decanter is the mini decanter 6 2/3 floz these dont generally fetch a great deal..
Perhaps your decanter is the same as this auction on ebay for a large and small decanter which failed to attract any bids
