|
|
I have a bit of a soft spot for peaty whiskies and i am always keen to try something new. Having probably tried most peaty Islay malts within my price range. I wondered what other decent peaty malt whiskies are out there that i may not have tried yet.
What non Islay peaty whisky would you recommend |

Would it be cheeky to suggest Talisker? I'm guessing you've tried it since it's very famous, but of course it's not from Islay |

Have you tried some of Benriiachs bottlings, some i would recommend are in order of preference and as it happens also price i think.
Birnie Moss Heavily Peated from Benriach
Benriach 10 Curiositas Peated
Benriach 13 Year Old Maderensis Madeira Finish Heavily Peated
Benriach 21 Year Old Authenticus Peated Malt
If it is peat you are after you wont be disappoint with any of these especially the Birnie Moss and the Curiositas considering the price of them. |

Here are 2 peated whiskies which most people miss from Glen Scotia
Glen Scotia 1999 Cask No. 518 Heavily Peated
Glen Scotia 1999 Cask No. 525 Heavily Peated
Both are only about 8 years old and bottled at 45%, both are very good peated whiskies and only £27.95 at The Whisky Exchange so a great whisky for your money. If i was to choose just one i would go for Cask No. 518 |

If i was to choose just one i would go for Cask No. 518 | This is 2 i would not have thought of, just had a look in the whsiky bible and mr murray rates them pretty highly, especially cask 518, which he says has a vaguely Bowmore style, so i think this with be interesting to try.
I have had the Longrow CV and it is a cracker, what other Longrows are worth a go? |

Innes i havent had a Longrow that i didnt like, the Longrow 10 year old 100 proof, 14 year old are both worth a go. I havent had the 18 year old but have heard good things about it. |

Cheers Alastair, i may get myself one of the Longrow, probably the 100 proof and perhaps one of the Glen Scotia and have myself a mini Campbeltown tasting along with the Springbanks i have already. May also go for a Birnie Moss - heavily peated and 48% and seems to be well rated by the critics. |

I have tried a few of the Longrows and have to say the CV is my pick out the bunch.
The Glen Scotias are new to me, sounds like they are worth a closer look especially considering theprice of them. |

Kenny as i said above, if you are going to try the Glen Scotia go for the cask 518 although they are both worth a try. |
