Review of Bunnahabhain 20 Year Old Palo Cortado Cask Finish
Distell 2018 Malt Whisky Collection.
One of two expressions from
Bunnahabhain in Distell's inaugural Malt
Whisky Collection, this Bunnahabhain 20
Year Old Palo Cortado Cask Finish is the
oldest release in the 2018 collection.
Matured in traditional oak whisky casks
for first 19 years and then finished in
rare Palo Cortado casks for almost two
years, a limited release of only 300
bottles here in the UK, bottled at Cask Strength, 54.9% ABV,
natural colour and non chill filtered.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A plush, light Oloroso type sherried
fruitiness, toasted raisins, vanilla and
sweet toffee as well as a slight candied
sweetness.
Taste:
A delicious mix of muscovado sugar and
and lovely light sherried fruit coats
every corner of the mouth. A little
vanilla and slight nuttiness.
Finish:
A lovely long finish, the delicious
fruits and sugars and some sweet toffee
linger for an age.
Comment:
Loved it, an outstanding irresistible
Bunna! It isn't often we see Palo
Cortado sherry casks used to mature or
finish a whisky, and the casks used here
have been of the highest quality and
they have given this deliciously mature
Bunna a light Oloroso sherry type
influence. A very enjoyable dram, I
highly recommend this if your pockets
are deep enough.
